Gay Bowl Dates Unveiled
REGISTRATION FEES - It's that time of year again. Gay Bowl is almost upon us, where we'll embark on sunny San Diego October 9th-11th! Here are some important dates to be aware of: Early Registration opens TODAY (July 1st) and is $700 for a team of 16 of less. Each player over 16 will be an additional $25 fee. On August 8th, the registration fee increases to $800 for teams up to 16 players. Registration closes on September 1st. To register, simply head to www.gaybowlsandiego.com.
TEAM DECLARATIONS - Each city must declare how many teams they wish to have go to Gay Bowl by July 15th. To declare, simply send an email to NGFFL Gay Bowl Liaison Brandon Waggoner (brandon@ngffl.com) stating how many teams your city is interested in bringing to San Diego. We are implementing this new requirement so that we can award 2nd and 3rd teams from the same city with a bid earlier in the calendar to afford them the opportunity to book tickets to San Diego. The announcement of 2nd & 3rd teams will occur by July 21st. Although the declaration must be made by July 15th, payment doesn't have to be made until before registration closes on September 1st, according to the schedule above.
PAUGA DECLARATIONS - This requirement is for players seeking to play with a team outside of their PAUGA ("previously agreed upon geographic area"). To be eligible to play with a team outside of your PAUGA (or locale), the player EITHER must have played with that non-local team before AT a GAYBOWL tournament OR must be granted a release from its PAUGA leader (i.e.: the city leader of the locale in which the player resides). All of these releases must be submitted via email to NGFFL Gay Bowl Liaison Brandon Waggoner (brandon@ngffl.com) by July 20th.
ROSTERS DEADLINE - Final roster submissions must be submitted by September 18th. If something happens after September 18th that causes your roster to need to change, please contact Brandon Waggoner (brandon@ngffl.com).
Gay Bowl Bid Process for 2017 Gay Bowl
Depending on a vote by the city leaders, it is likely that the NGFFL will change the date that the Gay Bowl bid - a bid which requests to be considered as host of the Gay Bowl - will be due from the Spring of the previous year (i.e.: Gay Bowl 2016's bid was due in April, 2015) to mid-September two years before (i.e.: Gay Bowl 2017's bid will likely be due in September, 2015). This will enhance the Gay Bowl bid process in at least two different ways: (1) it will increase the amount of time the city awarded Gay Bowl will have to commit to fundraising; and (2) it will allow the Gay Bowl bid vote to happen when representatives from each city are in the same physical location.
If you are interested in hosting Gay Bowl 2017 (Gay Bowl 2015 is in San Diego and Gay Bowl 2016 is in Washington, D.C.), please plan to submit your Gay Bowl bid no later than September 10th, 2015. This will allow for 1 month for the NGFFL board to review and ask questions of the city prior to the vote taking place at Gay Bowl 2015 in San Diego.
