This year's NGFFL Task Force is comprised of players and leaders from around the country, with representation from the larger and smaller NGFFL cities.  Those on this year's Task Force are: Aszur Rollins (Denver), Chris Whitlow (Atlanta), Lance Burage (Boston) Matt Herek (Chicago), OT Porter (Houston), Ryan Peel (Salt Lake City), Shawn Rea (Phoenix),  Ty Law (Honolulu), Vinny Maniscalco (NYC), and Brandon Waggoner (DC).

The hot topics for this quarter are (1) Should Gay Bowl expand to a C Division; (2) Are there tweaks to be made to the Random Draw component of Gay Bowl; and (3) How do we improve attendance at the championship games.  We will be making our recommendation on the possibility of a C Division to the NGFFL Board later this month.  The Board will then determine whether to accept our proposal.  So the decision on a C Division should be known shortly!

If you have input on any of these matters or wish to have the Task Force take up another issue, please feel free to reach out to me at brandon@ngffl.com.

You Be The Ref!

TRUE or FALSE?
1) The use of any replay, video, photograph, mobile device or television monitoring equipment by the game officials in making any decision relating to the game is prohibited.
2) Two forward passes thrown by Team A during a down is legal, as long as the first one is caught behind the line of scrimmage.
3) In overtime, if the defensive team gains possession of a live ball, the ball becomes dead immediately and both the down & series has ended for the offensive team.
ANSWERS:
1) TRUE. Rule 1.1.3 lays this out, and this mimics the high school rule as well. Doesn't matter if anyone has a video or photo on the phone from the sideline, this can not be used in making any decision related to the game being played.
2) FALSE. Doesn't matter where the forward pass is caught, rule 7.5.2.c allows for only one, single forward pass per down. The penalty for throwing a second forward pass is a 5-yard penalty from the spot of the foul, and loss of down.
3) TRUE. The NGFFL also mirrors high school rules with rule 8.6.1.d. The general thought process here is that overtime should be as "equal" and "fair" as possible for both teams. Some feel that allowing the defense to return an intercepted ball for a touchdown to end the game is a bit of an advantage.

NGFFL Strategic Vision Revealed

The NGFFL is focusing on long-term visioning and revealed its strategic roadmap at the city leaders, gay bowl delegate annual meeting held in March. While the board continues to foster community, comradely and inclusivity through flag football, there will be a clear focus on four strategic pillars:
1) Enhancing the gay bowl experience
2) Drive membership growth and leagues
3) Develop national partnerships
4) Give back more than we take.

Building a strategic roadmap allows for a maniacal focus on the things that matter most, and provides full transparency for its members. It's our new way forward and 2017 will be a remarkable year for our football family.

NGFFL Partnership Task Force Needs You!
With the success of the gay bowl task force, we are now creating a partnership committee that will focus on building partnerships with corporations that support LGBTQ organizations through in-kind and financial donations. This is an important initiative for NGFFL because it's part of the long-term strategy to create member league value, while also addressing the on-going sustainability of hosting a gay bowl.
Role/Purpose: serve in a collaborative role to properly vet, create and develop a framework for building and maintaining partnerships; play an active role in targeting, prospecting and engaging organizations on behalf of NGFFL

Who: three to five entrepreneurial minded, energetic, self-starters with a strategic mindset that seek to serve the football community and/or has partnership/fundraising experience.

Commitment: Bi-monthly conference calls, deliver against an action plan, exert a little effort and be an ambassador for the NGFFL.
When: Kick-off on, before June 2017.
