Random Draw Process at Gay Bowl XV!

NGFFL GOES “RANDOM” IN SAN DIEGO

Gay Bowl XV returns to San Diego, and the NGFFL Board of Directors sets it sights on revitalizing opening night, creating suspense and delivering greater sponsorship value with the approval of a “random” draw for “A” and “B” brackets.  While how you finish is how you place, what POD you sit within the frame of placement, is all determined by the draw.  For the first time in Gay Bowl history, teams will gather with eager anticipation as one by one, balls are drawn to determine the PODs.  This new approach, drafted by the Task Force, will energize the room, with a hush we’ve not seen in awhile.  Balls designated, as A-B-C-D, will determine placement as teams are announced by their seeding from prior year.

How it works (through lens of four PODs as in “A” Bracket):
      1)    Top four seeds are assigned to a POD in ranking order based on prior year tournament finish.  San Diego (#1), Phoenix Hellraisers (#2), LA Motion (#3) and DC Generals (#4).
      2)    Announcer will begin with the callout of the seed and team name at the beginning of each “random” draw (Example:  Seed #5, Boston Hancocks)
      3)    First random draw begins with seeds 5, 6, 7 and 8
      4)    Second random draw placing seeds 9, 10, 11 and 12
      5)    Final random draw placing seeds 13, 14, 15 and 16

Random Rules:
      1)    Random draw applies to both “A” and “B” bracket
      2)    Event must be administered by a “non-player”
      3)    No POD, if possible, should contain three teams from the same city - Teams with “third” city assigned to a Pod will be redrawn or slotted to “next” available Pod

WILDCARD SELECTIONS WILL BE NARROWED IN SAN DIEGO

Gay Bowl XV will continue the opportunity for “B” bracket teams to win the coveted trophy with the “wildcard” games; however, beginning in San Diego, a few changes in process were recommended by the Task Force and approved by the Board.  What isn’t changing is that the “wildcard” game is optional for the “B” bracket teams.

What’s New With The Wildcard Games?

Wildcard games determined by number of “B” pods
Option of “wildcard” play-in relative to “B” invites will equal the number pods within “B”
Four “B” pods = (4) wildcard games and invite to top four teams only
Five pods =  (5) wildcard games, with top five “B” teams granted option to play in wildcard games

Will this be the year a wildcard team takes home the trophy?
